Papa Utukufu has been playing the guitar since he was 10. "I joined the church choir at six years old," he says. Papa Utukufu is passionate about all things music. "I never wanted to be someone who would regret being born," he says.
The musician who is married with four children relocated to Kenya from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2005 and has worked with big names in the music industry like the late Angela Chibalonza, Esther Wahome, Betty Bayo and other gospel artistes. He has also worked with a number of secular artistes as well.

Papa Utukufu plays the guitar, is a vocalist, a music producer and also majors in music arrangement - this he explains to me is arranging how a song is supposed to start (the introduction) and also determined how the song will be and where the breaks will be.
He formed Glory International Band 15 years ago and has successfully led it since then. The band which is now, MTG Band currently has 10 members consisting of six instrumentalists and four vocalists. Some of the founding members followed other pursuits abroad but has held on to his dream. He went through music school where he learned production and music.

Papa Utukufu says the journey has not been an easy one but his passion for music has kept him going. "It was challenging at first but with time it stabilised," he chips in. "Coming from a foreign country had its own challenges as we tried to settle in and sell our agenda," he explains.
What is Papa Utukufu's advice to upcoming musicians? "To succeed, one must love music," he says. "Have a well defined vision and focus on it," advises Papa Utukufu. "Goal setting is also very important as well as having an agenda of what you intend to achieve. Focus on fulfilling the set agendas," he says.
"I would like people to have focus in whatever they are doing and not allow themselves to be derailed," he says in conclusion.
