Beauty Queen to accompany Dr Koske for advanced treatment in India
Dr Fred Koske's life took a turn for the worse when he sustained a spinal injury in October 2020, which left him paralysed from his neck down. "As a medical doctor, I knew the implication of my injury and it was horrifying," explains Dr Koske. "The last two years have been filled with mixed feelings," he says. He confesses to having gone through extreme depression and felt like life was not worth living anymore. Today Dr Koske is happy that he has stabilised and is looking forward to travel abroad at the beginning of April, 2022 for specialised treatment, which is not found locally. "I was headed towards the peak of my career but overnight, had become 100 percent dependent on others for my daily chores," he discloses. "I was haunted by the trauma that those close to me were going through and the pain my disability was also causing them," says Dr Koske. His hope for gaining the functionality of his limbs was in medical tourism. Dr Koske needed to travel to India for Stem Cell Treatment but funds stood in his way since the family had exhausted all their finances in the surgeries he had undergone so far. The family also needed to employ a nursing aid who would cater for his personal needs as Dr Koske requires assistance round the clock. "It is a costly venture and our biggest challenge has been the lack of finances to enable me travel earlier," explains Dr Koske. To help bridge the gap for the family, Viva Serenity, a company affiliated to Miss Talent Global (MTG) has been helping to raise funds for Dr Koske's advanced treatment in India. The targeted amount is Kshs 4.5million, which will cater for his Stem Cell Treatment and advanced neuro-rehabilitation. Dr Koske will be travelling with a nurse who will assist him since he cannot use his hands.   Dr Fred Koske will also be accompanied by Diana Edward Loi, Miss Tanzania 2016 who is the flag bearer of MTG. "I am honoured to be accompanying Dr Koske on his medical journey and I wish him a quick recovery," says Diana. The beauty queen will also get a chance to tour Mumbai and get an opportunity to market MTG. Dr Koske is upbeat and is excited that finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel. "The journey has been long and gruelling but finally things are converging," he says. "You never miss something till you don't have it. I'm unable to use my hands to full extent but I'm filled with hope that I will regain the functionality of my hands," says Dr Koske.   The doctor is still at a loss of words, "I lack the words to give an actual description of how I feel. I'm excited we are almost there. We are still not on target but it's a relieve to be able to travel and start my treatment as the funds drive continues." He was also excited at the thought of travelling with the beauty queen, "It will put me on another level of exposure that I've not been to before." "I'll wait to see what happens... you never know what could happen!" he says, as we both laugh.
